Transvaal
The Transvaal Association is based in Johannesburg and is an autonomous body, with its own constitution, serving the interests of former members of the Force in the Transvaal region. The Regimental Association of the Transvaal was formed in 1974. The founding members were: Keith Douche, R Bailey, John Brett, George Cross, Dave Kilshaw and Jim Prior.
The Association has over four hundred members and exists to foster and promote comradeship among former members of the force and also to provide assistance to members who are in distressed circumstances or in need of help. The Association publishes two editions of the Outpost each year.
We meet on the second Saturday of each month at 12h00 midday at the Jocks in Parktown, Johannesburg, which is the headquarters of the Transvaal Scottish Regiment. We hold five main functions each year; the Regimental Luncheon, the AGM, a braai lunch, a Curry and Rice Lunch, and a Christmas Sundowner.
The Transvaal Association has organised several notable events over the years, including the Centenary Dinner in 1989, at the Wanderers Club, Johannesburg, where the Guest of Honour was the former Prime Minister of Rhodesia, the Hon. Ian Smith.
Full membership is open to all ex members of the BSAP, both regular and reserve (including former National Servicemen). Associate membership is open to the spouse, widow, widower, son or daughter of former members of the BSAP and BSAP Reserve, and to anyone who identifies with our aims and ethos. Associate membership is also open to former members of the Rhodesian Army, Air Force and Prison Service. Corporate Membership is under discussion at present.
